Gothic Dog’s founder and designer, Jennifer Barber, was born in the early eighties in Dallas, Texas; an era and a region devoted to bigger is better. Her love for jewelry and dogs was immediately apparent when, as a toddler, she asked for a bracelet “like mommy’s” and a puppy. While her parents obliged her passion for jewelry, a dog would have to wait.

In 1997, Jennifer designed her first custom piece, a twelve-stone ornate diamond cross pendant, for herself. Over the next few years, while living in Austin, she created several other pieces, mainly diamonds and precious stones in gold, for family and friends, and sold a few pieces by word of mouth.

Giving up the comfort of her Texas roots, Jennifer moved to California in 2001 to pursue her law degree. Delighted with her new home in Malibu, the wait was over…she promptly welcomed Biscuit into her life, a champagne Poodle, now five pounds.

After passing the California Bar Exam, Jennifer obtained her Masters Degree in Dispute Resolution, all the while sketching jewelry designs and having a few cast. Living with a newly minted attorney, Biscuit was feeling a little lonely with Jennifer’s long hours; so she adopted Chanel, a three year old, two and a half pound black Pomeranian.

Biscuit and Chanel enjoyed dressing the part of the Hollywood dog with the latest in doggie duds and collars. However, what truly set them apart from the pack were their collar charms. Pendants, rings, or bracelets that Jennifer had designed always found their way around one of the dog’s necks, her philosophy being “why let a beautiful piece sit in a jewelry box just because I am not wearing it? They deserve diamonds too!”

From that philosophy Gothic Dog was born, creating an upscale jewelry label for dogs. Jennifer put her legal career on hold, and merged her two passions by creating a signature collection jewelry line for dogs, consisting of gold, silver, diamonds, sapphires, and other precious stones. Biscuit, Chanel and all the dogs Jennifer has known and loved, as well as the shapes, colors and sights of her travels inspire Gothic Dog designs. Every piece is still handmade by a professional jeweler, with raised "GD" initials for Gothic Dog authenticity on the back of the charm. Every Gothic Dog product is guaranteed to be Pupscale.TM

Jennifer currently lives in Orange County, California with her husband John, and their dogs.
